It may be old news but still  good news...

UK June 2007

Research, carried out by ING Direct has found that four and a half million fathers in the UK now share all the responsibilities for childcare.

Modern men are choosing to put their careers on hold in order to balance work with bringing up their children. For many, this means reducing working hours and taking an average salary cut of around £2,800, in order to spend more time ‘holding the baby, which adds up to £4.7billion across Britain.

USA  June 2007

There is an estimated 159,000 stay-at-home dads, or 2.7 percent of the country's population in the USA-- almost triple the percentage from a decade ago according to the U.S. Census Bureau. But experts say that number should be far higher because the census definition doesn't consider single fathers, those with children over 15 or those who work part-time or flexible hours to be home.

Many of these dads don’t go around advertising their “job." “There are a lot of stay-at-home dads who are still in the pantry,"  Roland Warren, executive director of the National Fatherhood Initiative, said there are “big gaps"  with most parenting resources geared toward and written for mothers.

“I still think the notion of a father as a nurturer is a newer concept in our culture," Warren said. “

Many dads love the extra attention they are given for being what is still considered a novel occupation. And most believe their children will grow up with a better perspective and less stereotypical attitude when it comes to gender roles.
